an actual beach vacation

For those that don't know, Sara and I went on vacation to the Outer Banks last week. Patsy and Skip have a house there and were kind enough to let us join them and my parents for a few days of salt water and sand...family style.

The pictures below are in reverse chronological order...kind of but not really. I haven't mastered this blog thing yet.

A view from the porch at the Skipper's Catch. (Patsy and Skip's house)

Found this girl hanging around outside our front door when we got home.

The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.

A real live pelican.

"Shed with door open." A photograph by Sara Lagree.

A view of the Hatteras Lighthouse, taken from it's original location.

A view down the steps of the Hatteras Lighthouse. (notice the hand holding on for dear life.)

That barrel behind us was used to hold Kerosene so the keeper could light the candle in the lighthouse. He had to use a bucket to get 40 - 50lbs of kerosene and then take the 268 steps to the top.

Hatteras Lighthouse.

Did we ever figure out what kind of bird this is? My guess: long necked, long legged water fowl.

Okay so they're more out of order than I thought. This is the view from the top of Hatteras.
Smiling happy people.

At Hatteras they had miniatures of Nick, Lynn and Patsy.

Driving up into oblivion.

A sunset on the beach at Cedar Point. The departure point for our first ferry ride.

"Exhaustion" a self portrait.

Cedar Point beach had seen some traffic earlier that day.

Our first glimpse of a water way near Cedar Point.

Weather station at Hatteras Village. Now a visitor's center.

Sarah Sze's
new piece "Corner Plot" is one of those that make you go "huh?" "oh" "wait...huh?". And that's why I like it.
